How Safe is Our Food?

The recent E. coli spinach contamination crisis is one example of the threats our nation faces to its food safety. While America’s livestock industry has one of the world’s best health and safety records, that status may be threatened in the years ahead by a shortage of veterinarians who work to protect our food supply.

Dr. Lyle Vogel, Director of the Animal Welfare Division of the AVMA discusses potential threats and explains why funding the National Veterinary Medical Services Act and passing the Veterinary Workforce Expansion Act is essential to ensuring there will be enough veterinarians to protect America’s food supply.
